Are You Procrastinating? Read This!

Procrastination is a challenge we have all faced at one point or another. We’ve all been there - struggling with delaying, avoiding, and procrastinating on issues that matter to us.

We all set goals at one point or another. Often, more times than not, we seem to work tirelessly towards those goals, but see no results. So how is that some people are able to stay persistent, never give up and eventually see things through?

Developing persistence is a master skill to success. It is easier to procrastinate and do nothing, or just live in our comfort zone, rather than face the uncertainty and discomfort of sailing through our goals. Plus, the idea of failure and hardship is unbearable. But if you want to create change in your life and achieve success, now is the time to develop and master persistence.

Here are 6 ways to avoid procrastinating and help you achieve your goals:

Have a Clear Understanding of Your Goals

In order to achieve a high level of focus, you need to figure out what you want. You need to be precise and exact. Once you figure out what you want, write it down. Be extremely precise on what it is you want, but also when you’re going to achieve it by. The more detail in the writing of your goal, the more likely you’ll be to achieve it.

Outline Your Game Plan

While having a clear end goal is critically important, it doesn’t mean much unless you are able to plot a clear and achievable path towards success. Planning your course and establishing time frames can also help you to understand whether or not it is realistically achievable, or if a compromise may be needed to make it viable, you don’t want to set yourself up to fail. If you are to translate a dream into something real, this is a crucial and insightful process.

Develop Discipline and Habit

One easy way to lose focus has to do with our internal, pre-programmed behavior, otherwise known as our habits. When we lose focus, it’s hard to stay persistent. When our habits hurt us rather than serve us, it’s easy to see why many of us lack the persistence to see things through. The bad habit of procrastination can cost us our goals if we allow it to spiral out of control. Try focusing on keystone habits, they’ll help other good habits to form and it will also help to eliminate the bad habits from your life. For example, working out for 30 minutes every morning is a keystone habit. It helps to bring on other good habits such as drinking more water, taking vitamins and eating healthy.

Adopt Anti-Procrastination Strategies

Procrastination is a habit – a deeply ingrained pattern of behavior. This means that you probably can’t break it overnight. Habits only stop being habits when you avoid practicing them, so try as many of these strategies as possible to give yourself the best possible chance of succeeding: forgive yourself for procrastinating in the past, commit to one task at a time, give yourself a reward if you complete the task and ask someone to check up on you.

Harbor a Sincere Sense of Gratitude

Be grateful for what you have, no matter how small it might be. Harbor a sense of utter and deep-down gratitude for what you have. That will help you remain focused, and in turn, to stay persistent towards your goals. When you stop being grateful towards things, that’s when everything can take a turn for the worst. Spend 15 minutes making a list of everything you have to be grateful for. Do it every morning. This is your morning gratitude.

Keep a Positive Mental Attitude

The road to success is not easy, in fact, it’s challenging. There will be countless times you will face defeat and failures that if you let it get to you, you’ll succumb to negative thoughts of fears and doubts. In order to develop persistence and eventually succeed in your endeavor, always maintain a positive mental attitude, regardless of situation. Keep your thoughts focused on taking action towards your goals.

Adjust and Change Your Course as Required

On the occasions that you do encounter difficulty, there may be a need to adjust your course and tailor your plans accordingly. This flexible and proactive approach enables you to react positively to even the most significant challenges, while it may also help you to constantly review your goals and the methods used to accomplish them.

With these thoughts in mind, you should be able to successfully accomplish individual goals throughout the course of your life. More importantly, you will also be able to maintain your sense of drive and remain successful over a prolonged period of time.
